Main Deity: Idumban Idumban Temple Timings:7am to 6pm Speciality: Before offering prayers to Lord muruga Devotees are requested to offer prayers to Idumban The Temple is situated 540 steps above the foothills of palani in the left side.It is believed that Idumban temple was situated in the palani hills before 2000 years.The idol is 13 feet tall carrying the kavadi.There are also shrines of Lord Vinayaka and Lord Muruga.The devotees carrying kavadi usually place the kavadi in Idumban temple.

The History of the Idumban temple :

Idumban is the guru of demons Surabatman,Banukopa and singamukhasura(demos killed by Lord muruga during “Soora samharam”).After the demises of demons Idumban started performing poojas for Lord shiva-shakthi in the place called Idumbavanam situated 16km from thiruthuraipoondi.Idumban wife Idumbi was very helpfull for Idumban in performing poojas and offerings to god. Sage agasthiyar in order perform poojas requested Lord muruga to offer siva malai and shivathi malai.In poochavanam Agasthiyar placed both the mountains and did the poojas.In the few day agasthiyar wanted to move to Pothigai so he left the mountains there .on his travel agasthiyar met with the Idumban-Idumbi .Idumban -Idumbi seeked the blessings of LOrd muruga so agathiyar asked them to bring the mountains from poochavanam to pothigai by chanting “sa ra va na bha va” and “arogara”. Idumban went to Poochavanam and did prayers to Lord shiva to give him strength to carry the mountains after the prayer a long stick and the big snake appeared before him .He placed the stick in the neck with the mountains tied both side using snake.Then he started carrying the mountain.On the way to pothigai in Thiru aavinangudi he placed the mountains and he took rest but after resting he was unable to lift the mountain ,he saw a small beautifull boy playing above the mountain called him but the boy refused to come and the boy hitted him with stick Idumban fell down and went dead by seeing this idumbi realized that none other than Lord muruga can kill him and begged the boy for the lIfe of Idumban . Lord Muruga appeared before them and Restored the life of Idumban.Muruga said”You will be inbetween the mountains and devotees will offer poojas by bringing materials in the kavadi as you did.Devotees should first offer prayers to you and then worship me to get the benefit”.
